The person behind CompassPoint

Fractional CFO support for owner-managed and growing businesses, including those that already have a bookkeeper or FM.

Michael Muller CA(SA)

With over two decades of experience, Michael started CompassPoint Consulting after 18 years in the corporate world. He became successful early on in his career by landing his first CFO role only six years post-qualification and continued as CFO for nine years in charge of various companies in different types of industries, including one listed on the London Stock Exchange (AIM).

Those years included rebuilding broken finance teams, putting controls in place, and turning a business from monthly losses to profitability. The work was the numbers, the cash, and the people who had to live with both.

What kept showing up is simple. Finance people often do not really understand the operations. Owners and operations people often do not really understand the finances. His approach has been to close that gap: learn the business first, then help the people who run it use the numbers to make better decisions.

That is the work now. Some clients need an ongoing monthly cadence. Some need a defined project. Most start with leadership, cash, budgets and controls. The bookkeeper or financial manager stays in place. CompassPoint sits above that layer — cash, pricing, the bank, the board and the next growth decision.

Let’s Talk

The finance team around you

Books are already in good hands

The bookkeeper keeps the day-to-day. CompassPoint sits above that layer — close, budgets, reporting and decisions.

You already have a financial manager

The FM keeps month-end and the recons. CompassPoint works above that on cash-flow forecasting, strategic growth and direction.

Books are not in good hands

Some businesses have no bookkeeper. Others have one they cannot rely on. CompassPoint can put a proper accounts layer in place first, then do the CFO work on numbers you can actually use.
